To seal the engine for dehydration, place the cap at an angle with one retainer flat against the inside of the pipe and rotate the cap inwards to easily secure. The opposite side retainer will clear the pipe entrance. The flex is in the round plate and attenuates by the time it gets to the round stiffening ring, which holds the edge firmly in place.  To remove, simply pull.  If you forget to remove them, the engine start will blow them out.
